These days the term “tourist area” is synonymous with safety, comfort, and modern living. These are havens where you can kick back, relax, and generally unwind with the sun on your face and an icy drink in your hand…

But not all tourists want this experience!

Some are drawn to the most extreme and dangerous of pass-times while they vacation. Of course, even a real thrill seeker might think twice about embarking upon some of these death-defying excursions and trips;

10) Chernobyl, Pripyat, Ukraine

The Chernobyl reactor in Pripyat, Ukraine, is one of the most infamous extreme tourist destinations in the world. Thirty-six years ago, the reactor went into meltdown; over the following three days, Pripyat was evacuated

9) Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland

6) Hua Shan Mountain, China

Hua Shan is not the talent of China's five mountains, but it's really is the most dangerous thanks to the infamous Hua Shan plank walk! Why is this hike called the plank walk? Well, that’s because hikers make their way across sheer cliff faces with the aid of wooden planks secured to footholds in the mountainside!

5) Elephant Kingdom Water Park, Thailand

If you like crocodiles, then the so-called "most dangerous attraction in the world" would probably be your cup of tea! Though the Elephant Kingdom Water Park in Thailand had many attractions, it was the crocodile feeding attraction that really brought in the crowds.

4) Trolltunga, Hordaland, Norway

Experienced hikers, looking for a challenging route that leads straight to the most exhilarating views in Norway? In that case, Trolltunga (the Troll's Tongue) may be just the extreme attraction for you. A 10–12 hour round trip through dense and challenging terrain start

3) Pria de Boa Viagem, Brazil

This picturesque Brazilian beach looks, on the surface, like a paradise; sun, sand, sea, and vibrant nightlife make this spot a real party center, but the beach here has a dark, dangerous secret! You see, Porto Suape was built on a Bull Shark breeding ground!

2) Mont Blanc, Chamonix, France

Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the French Alps. Sitting at 16,000 feet above sea level, it’s an impressive peak that around about 30,000 people per year attempt to climb.

For many Australians, the Kokoda Trail is somewhat of a pilgrimage; this area was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in WWII for Australian troops.
